BETWEEN ACTS

2024 - ONGOING

In January 2024 while in a workshop at the Angkor Photo Festival, I found myself exploring the streets and making friends with local Cambodians who, for the most part come from the labour classes - people getting off duty and gathering with friends, or getting back home to their families for dinner.

Cambodians have a sense of celebration woven into their lives, which comes through in the way they gather. Always a big meal, drinks and shot glasses, laughter and loud chit chat. The women and men gather together at the end of each day to end on a high note.

This is a visual exploration of how the banal becomes strange when looked at sideways — whether through a child’s drawing, or the quiet act of workers reclaiming their spaces. Reality is intact but slightly bent, to reveal quiet ruptures in life, suggesting a blurring between observer and performer, between public and private.
